Dinosaurs are always a hit at storytime! Whether your little readers love roaring, digging for fossils, or learning fun dinosaur facts, these books are sure to spark their imagination. Here are three of my favorite dinosaur-themed books that are perfect for storytime and encourage plenty of participation and fun.

The Books!

Rory the Dinosaur Wants a Pet by Liz Climo

Rory is a young dinosaur whose friend has a pet hermit crab. After a day full of fun playing with the pet and his friends, Rory has an idea: he will find himself a pet. Rory looks high and low for a pet but has no success. Then, just as he is giving up hope, an unexpected pet falls from the sky. A coconut becomes Rory’s pet.

Dig Those Dinosaurs by Lori Haskins Houran

This book is a great repeat-after-me book and a good way to get kids up and moving. Each page goes over a different step in the process that dinosaur bones go through to get from the ground to the museum. Each step has a specific action, with words like “dig” repeated. I have my storytime kids repeat the word and do the action to help me tell the story.

How Tall Was A T. Rex? By Alison Limentani

This book is so much fun! It compares many different parts of a dinosaur to everyday objects. For example, the size of a T. Rex’s eye is the same as a baseball. This book becomes even more fun if you bring in the objects it mentions and have a measuring tape to demonstrate the size of the animals it talks about.
